Blogrimage 2013 Day 9: Pictures are Back!

3/12/2013 in Drupal by micah

Ok, first an update for the non-nerds following my blogrimage! Pictures are back on TheGreenBag.com and I finally got around to reformatting the How I Spent My Summer Vacation story from 1999 into a single (readable) page. So the main contents of the site (our family story circa 2004, the history of The Green Bag, and the 1999 summer mystery tour) are all intact once again.

Drupal 7 Display array contents with pager

3/12/2013 in Drupal by micah

This example shows how to generate a render array from an array of data that includes a pager. This example will theme the content as an item_list, but the content section could be parsed and rendered as a table or by any other means, depending on the content of the $rows array.

Blogrimage 2013 Day 8: Patch testing

3/11/2013 in Drupal by micah

Not much progress to report today, but didn't want to miss a day's post on the blogrimage. Spent some time today testing patches and researching. That's about it.

Blogrimage 2013 Day 7: A patch for Backup and Migrate

3/10/2013 in Drupal by micah

Today I spent a little time digging into the bug I reported in the Backup and Migrate module as part of my Drupal 8 blogrimage. Doing so, I started to see how modules will need to change to use the new Configuration Management system.

Blogrimage 2013 Day 6: Default node listing is a view

3/9/2013 in Drupal by micah

Today was my second day of trying to build a website on Drupal 8. It gave me a great demonstration of how volatile this release is, and what a challenge this blogrimage will be.

Blogrimage 2013 Day 5: Calling a Mulligan

3/8/2013 in Drupal by micah

I'm calling a mulligan and restarting with a new challenge: I'm going to spend the rest of the 30 days rebuilding thegreenbag.com as a Drupal 8 site.

I hate to do this, because I was really hoping to make more of a contribution back to the Drupal community by participating in the #1day1patch campaign, but I'm just spending too much time finding issues I can work on, and don't have enough time left over to actually work on anything. So instead, I'm going to work on getting a production site up and running on Drupal 8.

Blogrimage 2013 Day 4: Installing Drupal 8

3/8/2013 in Drupal by micah

Well, I spent some time going through various issue queues and looking at various problems, but didn't find anything that I could readily write a patch for. My chosen blogrimage challenge may turn out to be more difficult than I thought. I didn't really make any progress on the Blogrimage website, either. I have some ideas that should make the next couple of days a bit more productive.

Blogrimage 2013 Day 3: A little background

3/7/2013 in Drupal by micah

I didn't really have a lot of time to mess with the Blogrimage site today, but I wanted to have something to post, so I did a little theme tweaking and selected a background image from Subtle Patterns. The downloads from Subtle Patterns include standard and Retina versions, so I also found a post on CSS Tricks that showed the appropriate media queries.

Blogrimage 2013 Day 3: Quick Cache Cleaner 7.x-1.0 release

3/6/2013 in Drupal by micah

Today was a busy day, so I flailed around a bit trying to find a patch to write for my blogrimage. I ended up working on one of my own Drupal modules, Quick Cache Cleaner, and finally rolling a 7.x-1.0 release.

Blogrimage 2013 Day 2: A Small Orange

3/5/2013 in Drupal by micah

Pradeepan and I selected A Small Orange to host the Blogrimage website. Pradeepan created an account last night, and the test site that I made is now running on the new hosting. The domain name has still not transferred, so you'll have to settle for screen shots until we can access the site directly, but the project is moving forward.
